Soma Bay to nowoczesny, dynamicznie rozwijający się region turystyczny położony nad Morzem Czerwonym, w malowniczych, zacisznych zatokach. Kurort znajduje się około 47 km od Hurghady.

Początkowo wybrzeże Soma Bay było pustynne i niezamieszkane. Jego zagospodarowanie rozpoczęło się w połowie lat 90. Inwestorów przyciągały krystalicznie czyste morze, szerokie piaszczyste plaże, bogata i niemal nietknięta podwodna flora i fauna, a także oddalenie od tętniącej życiem Hurghady z jej międzynarodową atmosferą i dużą liczbą turystów. Rozwój kurortu przebiegał etapami – najpierw powstawał duży hotel wraz z całą niezbędną infrastrukturą, w tym stacją odsalania wody, a następnie na przygotowanym już terenie budowano kolejne obiekty hotelowe.
